The MIT Enterprise Forum of Atlanta, now in our 15th year, is hosting a “Run It By The Pros” workshop.  This event is an opportunity for three early-stage tech companies to present their business to a panel of experts for constructive feedback at no charge.  Presenting tech companies will gain critical experience and impartial feedback from a panel of experts handpicked for their expertise in launching early stage tech companies and typically includes a lawyer, investors and a successful serial entrepreneur. Pro panel includes: Kent Antley, Member, Miller & Martin PLLC (moderator); Andrew Dorman; Managing Principal, Ethos Capital Partners; Wain Kellum, Strategic Advisor of Business Services, Vonage; and Derek Harp, Co-founder and Executive Chairman, NexDefense.

Kent Antley, Member

Kent Antley was born and grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina.  He graduated cum laude from Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina, with an A.B. degree in philosophy in 1969.  He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for several years where he did graduate work in philosophy, obtaining an M.A. degree.  Mr. Antley also was awarded a Fulbright-Hays fellowship for study at University College, University of London, London, England.  Mr. Antley received his legal education at Duke University, from which he graduated in 1978.

Mr. Antley began his legal career at a large Atlanta law firm, and then served as law clerk to the Honorable R. Lanier Anderson, III, United States Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit for two years.  After serving as Judge Anderson’s law clerk, he was an Assistant Professor of Law at the Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University, Macon, Georgia.  There he taught Constitutional Law, Uniform Commercial Code and Appellate Practice.

Mr. Antley is a member of the Commercial and Technology Practice Groups at Miller & Martin PLLC, where he represents many mid-market companies, both high technology companies and “low tech” companies.  He is familiar with the problems and financial needs typically faced by such companies, as well as the typical issues facing owners, directors, officers and employees of such companies.  His broad experience with such companies includes company structure and formation, mergers and acquisitions, distribution agreements, long term purchase agreements, technology licenses, strategic partnerships, angel and venture capital investment, bank loans, shareholder agreements, option plans, confidentiality agreements and employment agreements.  Mr. Antley also has extensive experience in these areas in international transactions.

Mr. Antley was instrumental in founding, and is a director of, the Technology Association of Georgia and is also a director of the TAG Education Collaborative.  He recently served as chair of the Tech High School, an innovative charter school located in Atlanta.  He is chair of the Board of Trustees of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church and  a member of the MIT Enterprise Forum – Atlanta chapter board.  He is a member of the American, Georgia, North Carolina and Atlanta Bar Associations, and is a member of the Business Section of the American Bar Association.  

Andrew Dorman

Managing Principal, Ethos Capital Partners

Andrew Dorman

Andrew is a managing principal of Ethos Capital Partners with investment experience in opportunistic credit, technology, commercial real estate and operating businesses. Previously, Andrew was the vice president of investments at Brand Properties where he was responsible for deal origination, financial modeling, investor relations, and portfolio management. He was also a member of the NoteSouth investment committee where he was responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and communicating investment opportunities. Andrew began his career as an acquisitions analyst at Centennial Holding Company where he directly assisted in the acquisition and management of a $600 million investment portfolio.

Andrew is a member of the Southeast Investor Group and Atlanta Tech Partners, and serves, or has served, as a member of the Venture Atlanta selection committee and Episcopal High School Advisory Council. His work within the local community includes, among other causes, serving as the Co-Chairman of the Admissions Committee for the Tour Championship at East Lake since 2012. Andrew received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Southern Methodist University and an MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he co-founded the Institute’s first multi-disciplinary graduate level real estate course.

Wain Kellum

Wain Kellum serves Vonage as Strategic Advisor - Business Services, following a successful tenure as President of Vonage Business Solutions and CEO of Vocalocity, which was acquired by Vonage in 2013. Under Wain’s leadership, the business grew from $8M in annualized recurring revenue to over 100M and continues to grow at 50% YOY.  Vocalocity adds to Wain’s solid track record of rapidly growing companies and driving successful outcomes in a diverse group of software companies he has led. His deep experience extends to organically growing companies, buying and integrating companies; forming strategic alliances; and raising capital. He has completed successful equity transactions with a variety of companies including Microsoft and Hewlett Packard (HP).

Wain has served as an early stage investor or board member in a variety of companies including Joe Auto (backed by Ford Motor Company), NetTime (sold to Paychex), WebPT (sold to Battery), Limos.com and Glad to Have You (sold to Homeaway). He is currently active with Call Rail, Call Ruby and BizMosis.

Wain was a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the Southeast, was named one of the 25 most influential people in the Southeast technology community by TechJournal South and received the Southeastern AeA "Spirit of Endeavor" Award for Outstanding Leadership. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration with honors from the University of South Carolina, an M.B.A from Georgia State University and has completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School.

Derek Harp

Derek Harp

Derek Harp is the Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of NexDefense, Inc. Founded in 2012, NexDefense empowers automation and control system operators with the real-time knowledge needed to maintain system integrity and combat sophisticated security threats. A serial entrepreneur and pre-seed investor in technology companies, Derek has founded, led, and advised new enterprises for more than 20 years. In addition to his current role with NexDefense, Derek helped launch and provides ongoing leadership to the Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Cybersecurity Business at the SANS Institute. He is also a founding steering committee member and co-manager of the Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) certification, which launched globally in 2013. Derek launched his entrepreneurial career in 1997 as the Co-Founder and the CEO of LogiKeep, Inc., a network security intelligence firm. During his time with LogiKeep he co-invented Intellishield™, a pioneer IT security product later acquired by Cisco Systems. Under his leadership, LogiKeep experienced extremely rapid growth, serving dozens of Fortune 500 companies, including those in major financial and pharmaceutical distribution industries and government institutions. Previously, Derek served as a U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer tasked with physical security, combat information management, communications security and intelligence responsibilities.
