Small Tech Companies which have built good businesses typically have a number of options available to them when it comes to an exit.  During this lunch and learn, you will hear from experts in the space who have either facilitated or been part of successful tech exits.  The following are possible discussion points:

Fred Sturgis

Fred Sturgis is a Managing Director at Accel-KKR and focuses on the firm's investment efforts at the lower end of its historical majority control investment size range.  Prior to joining Accel-KKR, Fred spent over twelve years at H.I.G. Capital, where he led the firm’s technology industry investment efforts. Previously, Fred was a member of the software investment banking team at Hambrecht & Quist, advising emerging growth companies on M&A and capital raising transactions and sponsoring several principal investments through H&Q’s $500 million venture capital fund. Before H&Q, Fred was with the investment banking groups of both Alex. Brown & Sons and Robinson-Humphrey. Fred started his career at Andersen Consulting (Accenture), where he managed software development and operations strategy initiatives for clients.

Fred received his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated as a Palmer Scholar. He received a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Furman University.

Mr. Tye’s investment banking practice is focused on providing merger and acquisition advisory services as well as private equity capital raising services to middle market and emerging growth companies. With over 15 years of investment banking and private equity experience, he has completed numerous transactions across industries with clients that include private equity funds, public and private corporations, and family-owned businesses. Since joining Croft & Bender in 2004, Mr. Tye’s primary focus has been on the technology, business services and healthcare industries.

As a member of the General Partner of C&B Capital, the private equity affiliate of Croft & Bender, Mr. Tye also has experience on the principal investing side of the business, including serving as a Board Observer for Q2ebanking (NYSE: QTWO), BPG Holdings, ControlScan, FX Bridge Technologies and SnagAJob.com, as well as being involved in several other investments. Prior to joining Croft & Bender, Mr. Tye helped start and build ITC Financial Services, serving the prepaid financial services industry. He also worked with public and private companies in his prior investment banking experience with Credit Suisse First Boston, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, and First Union Securities.

Mr. Tye received an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia and a BS with Special Attainments in Commerce, cum laude, from Washington and Lee University.

Dave Cormack

Dave Cormack is a veteran software industry executive who has founded, built, and managed several high-growth companies, both in the U.S. and internationally. He has more than 30 years of experience, including in his current position as president and CEO of Brightree and previous tenures as president and CEO of two highly successful start-up ventures that were acquired by NASDAQ-listed companies. In 2005, Dave took over Brightree, a fledgling SaaS start-up. Beginning with a dozen employees, a limited product offering, and fewer than 100 customers, Dave has led Brightree through a remarkable period of growth, from less than $1 million to $100 million in revenues. In 2008, Dave secured funding from Battery Ventures, a $4 billion private equity firm, which helped fuel both organic growth and complementary acquisitions. The company acquired C&S Billing in 2008, CAU in 2010, Pacware in 2011, and CareAnyware in 2013. Today, Brightree is the leading mission-critical application for post-acute care providers. It’s nearly 500 team members serve over 3,000 customers with over 68,000 users. Prior to Brightree, Dave founded and managed Soft Systems Limited, a London-based vendor of business intelligence tools, and MiracleWorkers.com, an Atlanta-based market leader in Internet recruiting for the healthcare industry, now owned by CareerBuilder.com. After the acquisition of Soft Systems by IQ Software, Dave served as senior vice president - worldwide operations for this NASDAQ-listed business. In this position, Dave was responsible for growing annualized revenues for a new enterprise software suite to $40 million in three years. Dave currently serves on the Board of Directors of AAHomecare, and has served on the board of a major professional soccer club in the U.K., listed on the London stock exchange, and he is a former co-chairman of the Atlanta Silverbacks pro team. Dave graduated with a degree in Accounting from Aberdeen College of Commerce, Scotland in 1981.

Clint Crosby is a shareholder in the Atlanta office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC and concentrates his practice in intellectual property, business litigation and the representation of emerging and growth companies.  His intellectual property practice includes prosecution, counseling and litigation.  He regularly represents clients in federal courts in infringement and declaratory judgment matters, including obtaining and defending against temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions.  Clint acts as outside general counsel for many of his emerging company clients advising them on formation, intellectual property and business and employment agreements.   He is a registered patent attorney who obtained a B.S. in Biology and his J.D. from the University of Georgia.  He was named a Georgia Rising Star (Intellectual Property Litigation) by Georgia Super Lawyers (2005, 2006, 2009 – 2012) and a Georgia Super Lawer for 2014.  He was also named as one of Georgia's Legal Elite in General Trial Practice by Georgia Trend Magazine (2009, 2012, 2013).
